The templars want samples of ancient sylvanwood from the wending wood, and the chanter has offered a reward for the samples. From the living wood is a chanter's board side quest received in the city of amaranthine in dragon age: It seems this is usually the one just west of the camp where you recruit velanna.
This Has Been Listed As A Bug For Quite A While, But I Don't Believe It Is A Legitimate Bug;
